Discover the limited edition prints of Richard Foster
Explore Richard Foster’s hand-etched prints. Each piece is created using techniques developed in the sixteenth century but adapted to take stock of current environmental concerns. Richard consciously looks back to the printmakers of the past as his inspiration but seeks to add a contemporary twist to his work.
Because Richard works almost exclusively in black and white, his work is also about the play of light on objects and the drama this can create.

Richard Foster
Richard trained as an art historian and began his career working in museums and country houses, as well as continuing to pursue his printmaking. British printmakers of the early 20th century, including Laura Knight, Ralph Middleton Todd and Edgar Holloway informed some of Richards practice and continue to do so today.
Richard’s later career has been in arts management and he has had the luxury of being able to access print rooms and studios in some of the organisations for whom he has worked.
Today Richard works from a home studio and the Iron Press, Lancaster and Linden Print Studio, Carlisle
I’m fascinated by the processes of printmaking; how fleeting and changing inspirations from the natural world can be fixed permanently on the printing plate. Each print is produced by hand in a small limited edition, with each print an individual work in its own right. I hope you enjoy my work.
